Slowly mending and being relegated to rest has given me a lot of time to think. A lot of time. I’ve had the chance to look at my life the past few months and realized a few important things. I love my job. I love being busy. As a result, I was caught up in the rush and pull of what I love. I let the passion for my vocation move me at a fast pace. I pushed my limits. This realization has been punctuated by the myriad of “New year, new you” messages bombarding news feeds ...
Superheroes Are Everywhere: People who come to the rescue when it matters most
Being sick sucks. It’s super fun when your bed and your couch are your two main spots of residence. Movement between them is filled with reluctance. The worst is when you realize you forgot your water or medication on the bedside table and you’re already on the couch. Getting up again feels impossible. You start to think moving objects with your mind would be a great talent to acquire right about now. If Dr. X can do it, why not you? So you try. To no avail. In keeping with the ...
Don’t Let Fear Stop You: Let it Inspire You
I am illing today. My brain is the consistency of applesauce, but I didn’t want to miss the chance to post one last time in 2016. Right now there seems to be a collective “WTF 2016??” going around. With the recent passing of George Michael and now the venerable Carrie Fisher, the world is holding its breath, waiting to see who else will be taken before the clock strikes midnight on Saturday. A lot of craziness went down this year. With Brexit, the US Election, and so many amazing ...
The Art of Yoga
All too often I hear students say they feel guilty because they haven’t “practiced yoga” in over a week, a month, or several months. What some people may not know is practicing on the mat, isn’t the only type of yoga. Yoga in it’s simplest translation means “union”. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re doing yoga. When we’re out for a long walk and get lost in the movement of our bodies and the quieting of our thoughts. When we start singing a song, writing creatively, or making art. When we ...
Retreat!!
So my awesome yoga teacher buddy and I are running a Yoga retreat in Nicaragua this coming April, 2017. Naturally, we’re both pretty darn excited about it. In my excitement, being the ‘word nerd’ that I am, it’s got me thinking about the word “retreat” and its connotations. I immediately associate this word with old-timey cartoons, where the army of woodland creatures goes in to attack their foes, only to realize their vastly out-numbered so they squeak out “Retreat, retreat!” and scatter in ...
Finding the “Hover Zone”
Yesterday was such a good day. It was probably one of the best days I’ve had in a long time. I was up like an espresso shot at 5:00 am. I lit tea candles, did yoga, a bit of weight lifting, meditating and journal writing. I had a full day of great classes and private clients. Everything flowed so perfectly. I kept bumping into wonderful people at just the right time. I was experiencing serendipitous moments and loads of laughter. Exciting decisions were made, and new career options were ...
Me: I don’t know…Yoga: and that’s OK
I seem to be at a place in my life where a lot of unknowns are popping up. New opportunities have presented themselves, which is exciting, but that doesn’t change this very real fact; The unknown is not my favorite thing. But it’s an exciting thing! Right?? Mystery, magic, possibility - all the buzz words saturating our Instagram feeds. I should be having fun entertaining all these new, enticing scenarios - at least that’s what I tell myself, when really I’m resisting ...
